A year ago at the wine festival in South Australia, a young woman left her six week old baby alone in a stroller and then disappeared herself.  Her body was never found.  This year Aaron Falk, the protagonist of The Dry, Harper's first book, is returning to the area where his friend's baby is going to be christened.  Kim, the missing woman, is on everyone's minds, and even though Aaron is not there in an official capacity, he finds himself drawn into the question of what happened to her the previous year.
