The Abraham Lincoln Collection is an outstanding group of books and materials about Abraham Lincoln's presidency, his politics, and his personal life. Including current as well as rare, older volumes, this collection is supported by the Peekskill Lincoln Society, the oldest Lincoln society in the country. First founded in 1903, the Lincoln Society is a civic group dedicated to the memory of Lincoln.
Peekskill was honored by Lincoln on two visits: once, briefly on February 19, 1861, on the way to his inauguration, and then four years later on April 25, 1865 when his funeral train stopped at the Peekskill railroad station. The Lincoln Society maintains the Lincoln Exedra, a memorial on South Street erected in 1925 which overlooks the site where Lincoln spoke. Please click on this link to the Lincoln Society homepage.
