Field of Mystery Book Group
Join the Field of Mystery Book Group for a discussion of our September selection, Crook Manifesto, by Colson Whitehead. Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk.
This book, set in 1970's Harlem, follows the misadventures of Ray Carney, a former fence trying to go straight as a furniture salesman, and his partner in crime, Pepper, through machinations to get Jackson 5 tickets for Carney's daughter through Pepper's efforts as security on a Blaxploitation movie being filmed in Harlem, to their investigation into a suspicious fire injuring one of Carney's tenants. The book, chosen as one of the best of the year in many lists, paints a vivid picture of a time and a place that's not that far in the past.
Join us for what should be an excellent discussion, complete with refreshments.
