Join the Field of Mystery Book Group for a discussion of our April selection, Cahokia Jazz, by Francis Spufford.  Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk.

Cahokia Jazz is a unique fusion of noir mystery and alternate history.  Set in the state of Cahokia, in a United States where the Native Americans were NOT slaughtered and pushed out of their lands but had a state of their own, the book follows a Native American police officer and his partner in the Native state of Cahokia as they investigate the ritualistic murder of a white man, a case that could destroy the delicate power balance among the different groups in the state.  Powerful forces want the case to be solved quickly, with a particular result, and other opposing forces want to have the case investigated fairly, no matter what the result, and Joe Barrow, the troubled protagonist, is pulled between them.

It should be an excellent discussion of this fascinating book, so come and join us.  There will be refreshments.
