Join the Field Notes Book Group as we discuss our April selection, The Marriage Portrait, by Maggie O'Farrell.  Copies of the book are available at the circulation desk.

Set in Renaissance Italy and based on the life of a real person, The Marriage Portrait is the story of Lucrezia Medici, younger daughter to a powerful Florence duke.  When her older sister dies suddenly, Lucrezia is married to her sister's fiancee, the duke of Ferrara, and sent to live in her husband's court.  Barely out of childhood herself, she has to navigate a strange court's politics and intrigues, figure out her new husband, and -- the most important thing for a noble wife -- produce an heir to the dynasty, in a world where she has virtually no power and little voice.

Join us for what should be a good read and an excellent discussion.  Refreshments will be available.
