Field Notes Book Group

Join the Field Notes Book Group as we discuss our January selection, In the Shadow of the Mountain, by Silvia Vasquez-Lavado.  Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk.

In the Shadow of the Mountain is a memoir by a woman who made her reputation in the tough world of Silicon Valley, while hiding her sexuality, her alcoholism, and her past history of sexual abuse.  When she returned to her family in Peru, everything came crashing down on her, and she discovered mountain climbing as a way of dealing with her issues.  Ultimately she decided to try the highest mountain in the world, Mt. Everest, taking with her a group of fellow sexual abuse survivors.
