Field Notes Book Group

Saturday, January 20, 2024 - 11:00am to 12:30pm

Join the Field Notes Book Group for our first discussion of the new year, where we will talk about The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde.  Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk.

The Eyre Affair takes place in an alternate timeline in which, for instance, the Crimean War never ended, people have dodos for pets, and time travel is a real thing.  Our protagonist, Thursday Next, is a Special Operative in Literary Detection, so it's up to her to solve the case when the third most wanted person in the world starts entering books and killing off characters and changing endings.  In a world where literature is a big deal, the villain's kidnapping of Jane Eyre from her book requires an all out effort to save her, with the help of Thursday's time-traveling father and Edward Rochester from the novel itself.

It should be a fun discussion of an entertaining book.  Join us.
