Field Notes Book Group

Saturday, September 21, 2024 - 11:00am to 12:30pm

Join the Field Notes Book Group for a discussion of our September selection, What the Dead Know: Learning about Life as a New York City Death Investigator, by Barbara Butcher.  Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk.

Barbara Butcher has lived an interesting life.  In the process of recovery from alcoholism, she found a job at the New York City Medical Examiner's Office, and became only the second female death investigator in the city's history, and the first to last more than three months. As such, she investigated thousands of suicides and homicides, and was also one of the investigators in the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center.  She writes about her experiences with verve and a certain dark humor.

We should have a fascinating discussion, and, as always, there will be refreshments.
