Join the Field Notes Book Group as we discuss our February selection, Walking with Sam: A Father, a Son and Five Hundred Miles Across Spain, by Andrew McCarthy.  Copies of the book are available at the circulation desk.

When his oldest son, Sam, was approaching adulthood and leaving the parental nest, Andrew McCarthy decided it was time to get to know Sam as adult to adult, and the way to do this was for both of them to walk the Camino del Santiago, the famous pilgrim trail across Spain.  For five weeks the pair walked over unforgiving terrain together, having more honest conversations in this period than they'd had in the two decades of Sam's life before that.  A memoir, a travelogue and a coming of age story, all rolled into one.
